Our main selling months for Art Shows are April through Christmas Eve. Well-meaning folks ask
us what we do with “all our time off” during January through March. It’s a fair question but the
answer is longer than most people have the time or patience for. Suffice it to say there is a pile
of homework including taxes, bookkeeping, jurying for shows, creating new designs and
updating the website.
Yes, I did get summoned for jury duty last year, but in this definition, “jurying for shows,” means
something completely different. It’s the process by which artists submit images of their work via
photographs, slides, or digital shots with a new-fangled process called Zapplication.
We recently discovered that some customers believe artists just show up at the Art Fairs and
Festivals and find a spot. Nooooo, not how it works. Months in advance, we are required to fill
out applications complete with images and sometimes resumes and artist’s statements. It is a
nail biting and time consuming project. It is similar to filling out a job application and having an
interview for each and every show.
The upshot of this information is that we will soon again be in the process of applying for shows
and then waiting for the results. We will post our 2010-11 shows here as we receive the
“Congratulations! You have been accepted…” letters. Stay tuned for this edge-of-your-seat
progression.
